A 60-day voyage around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the death of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The liner departed without her and went back after some time after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator said that travelers and staff on the ship were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" banning any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.

The liner first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's passing. The remote island was the opening port on the voyage.
